About UK DIY
Formed in 2007 the UK DIY Forum has now established itself as an invaluable resource for DIY enthusiasts, UK builders, Trade and Industry Professionals.
After being open for 10 months as a standalone forum, the site developed to more of a community advice site to include DIY guides, competitions, product reviews trades news as well as a steady stream of blog posts to help the experienced and in-experienced worker.
The admin team add industry and D.I.Y. news on a regular basis through our home page blog. Comments, advice, hint and tips are passed around our members and visitors by our interactive discussion and forum. We try to meet the information requirements and services of the newcomer to D.I.Y through to the Trade and Industry Professional.
Currently our average page views per day are over 1600 and we have over 1200 users and registered members. With your help and enthusiasm that you have shown in the past it is my intention to develop the website even more. I will welcome comments, advice and any constructive criticism and attempt to meet the needs of the forum members.
Please ask, learn, contribute and more importantly - enjoy your visit to the UK DIY Forum.
A little about myself…
My father had his own workshop where I would go and stand at the bench on a stool and plane off cuts of softwood. From there my interest in wood and joinery grew and grew. When I reached my teen years all I wanted for Christmas and Birthdays was tools. Not just any tools but ‘Stanley’ tools.
When I reached the age of fifteen I was lucky enough to get an apprenticeship with one of the areas Building Contractors and more importantly, leading joinery manufacturers. This was the one job that I wanted because everyone that I spoke to remarked on their unrivalled reputation for high quality workmanship. This was my dream job come true because I did not want to do anything else or work for anyone but C.Gant & Son. Here I served my apprenticeship concentrating on ‘Purpose Made Joinery’
From there I went to work in the Caravan Industry until a downtourn when I started work for a local building contractor where I made and installed joinery items before moving into a management role. Since then I have worked as a surveyor, installation manager and site supervisor in the uPVC Conservatory and Window Replacement Industry. More recently I have worked as a Specialist Joinery Estimator and Minor Works Estimator.
I would therefore say that although I have over thirty years construction and building trade experience my real interest is joinery!
